SIG - Web 2.0 and Social Networking Sites
Access to Internet coupled with proliferation of the personal computer (PC), heralded Web 1.0 revolution, which has since changed the way we communicate, the way we interact and the way we conduct business. Web 2.0, driven by Social Networking Sites and the smart phone (mobile) promises to be even bigger, and will have a more profound impact on our lives than anything ever before.
Objectives
- Create awareness about the power of Social Networking Sites (SNS), what opportunities SNS can create for a business enterprise and what are the accompanying challenges
- To provide a platform for interaction, exchange of ideas, mentoring, training and education.
- To promote dialogue on emerging SNS technology platforms
- To promote interaction and sharing on how enterprises are leveraging SNS platforms
- To explore use of SNS for growth of CSI
- Organise seminar and workshops for benefit of computer professionals, students and the public at large
Activities
- Activities of this group will be aligned to help achieve the above objectives. These will involve

- Setting up an in-house SNS
- Identity threats and methods for protection
- Corporate guidelines for use of SNS
- Emerging SNS platforms and how businesses can use them
- How SNS will impact corporate balance of power
- How to prevent data leakage on account of SNS culture
- Will SNS replace email ?
- Security, access, regulation and privacy
- Managing large number of employees and partners in a SNS set up
