Ranchi Chapter of CSI was started in 1983 with thirty members presently chapter is having around 200 members.
ACTIVITIES OF RANCHI CHAPTER
Over the past few years the Ranchi Chapter has provided services in spreading computer literacy to the community in and around Ranchi. Every year the chapter has been conducting regular courses on various topics and subjects related to computer & IT. Technical Talks and workshops on emerging and state-of-the art technologies are organized periodically to update the members about the changes and developments taking place in IT and computer fields. The activities of the Ranchi Chapter can be categorized as Education Program, Rural Awareness Programs, IT Quiz/ Software Competitions for Students, Technical Talks/ Workshops/ Product shows, Nation & Internation Seminar/ conferences etc.
Chapter organizes training programs for Students of class X to Engineering , Professionals & Housewives. The Chapter also organizes tailor-made programs.
Apart from regular educational activities Chapter every year organizes Inter School IT Quiz competition for students of Class VIII to X in one category & Class XI & XII in another category. Under Rural developments acticities which has been aimed for creating awareness of computer & its application among the rural & poor students. This activities is done in association with MECON & RDCIS, SAIL.
From last year Chapter has started giving support in terms of infrastructure to the local NGO/ group of persons running free computer literacy/ educational programs for poor & needy students of rural people.
Many technical talks and workshop has been organized by the chapter to facilitate technical interaction and to keep the member updated with latest developments in the computer field. Some of the topics covered were Databases, Cliend Server Computing, Computer Aided Design, Networking, Data Security, ERP etc.
The Chapter has organized many national and international conferences/ seminar in the past :

• Laboratory Automation, in 1986
• Library Automation, in 1987
• Computerisation & Automation in Steel Industries (CATSIN’96), in 1996
• Networking & Information Systems (NETINSYS’97), in 1997
• Computerisation & Automation in Steel Industry (CSICOM-2003) in 2003
• Automation & Information Technology in Iron & Steel Making Processes (AITISM’07), in 2007.
The Chapter has instituted an award scheme in which deserving members are awarded the “Distinguished Service Award” for their commendable contributions. The Chapter conducts “Annual General Body Meetings and also Annual Day Celebrations” in which the families of the members also participate.
Achievements :
In the 44th Annual Convention of CSI which was held during October 08-10, 2009 at Pune the Chapter was awarded “Best Chapter Award –Region IV” consecutively for second year. Sri L. R. Singh, Director (Technology), MECON Ltd. was awarded “Chapter Patron award” and Sri Sanjeev Kumar, AGM & I/c HRD, MECON Ltd. was awarded “Significant Contribution Award” for their association, support given to the chapter. These awards were given in the AGM held during the 44th Annual Convention at Pune.
