Activities
a. Membership-related
Provide support to members in terms of providing information, guidance and direction vis-à-vis FOSS. Provide forums for interaction with experts
b. Advocacy
Establish and set up the following Seminar series:
- One international seminar held every year
- 3-4 Regional Seminars
- Local seminars by Chapters
Each of these will ensure equitable participation from different sections such as Students, Government personnel and SMEs.
Set up annual awards in conjunction with industry actors for the best FOSS initiatives in:
- Personal productivity applications
- Education, Governance and Social Computing Applications
- Student Project
The SIG will set up a group of FOSS experts who can participate in events as resource persons.
c. Technical
The SIG will set up a website and mailing group where technical doubts of members can be resolved. In addition, the SIG will set up a database (or link with an existing database) of successful FOSS initiatives. The SIG will also endeavour to put those individuals or organizations that desire to develop FOSS-based applications in touch with developers or experts.
d. Networking
FOSS-SIG will establish linkages with, and be a part of, international initiatives in FOSS. Further, the SIG will utilize its website, mailing lists and a quarterly e-newsletter to reach out to its members and create a community.
e. Student activities
SIG-FOSS will take special efforts to ensure the growth of FOSS among students, by providing support to FOSS clubs in colleges, student project repository and similar initiatives. The Student Activities Coordinator shall take special effort to ensure penetration of the FOSS philosophy to student communities.
