Computer literacy in rural India:

The chapter has been conducting Computer Appreciation programmes and skills development programmes to the Rural school children, many of them never had an opportunity to work on computer. Sriji College Staff lead by Principal P.Kishan Kumar and students extended their services during holidays to conduct computer literacy programmes to the village school students. An important achievement has been that almost 90% of the rural school students developed typing skills at the age of 12-13 years apart from accessing the internet and the world wide web with the support extended by CSI-Ongole Chapter and Sriji College.

The Process: Ongole chapter along with National Service Scheme (NSS) of Sriji College adopted five villages (Maddiralapadu, Chadalavada, Inamanamellur, Chekurapadu, and Throvagunta) for prompting Computer literacy for the school children.

Computers are installed involving the local teachers. CSI members with volunteers of NSS unit of SRIJI COLLEGE impart the technical skills on using computers in education. Typing skills are developed using typing tutor and word processing is encouraged so that teachers and students use the computers for documentation. Teachers are trained to use Power Point presentations. School office and administration personnel are trained on using spreadsheet concepts.

Regular training for developing technical skills is provided by the CSI members to the school children. Regular programs on monthly basis are conducted in five villages by the CSI-Ongole chapter, SRIJI VIDHYA PEETH sponsors the events.
