Activities of CSI include Lecture meetings, Seminars, Conferences and Workshops to:
1. Discuss current development and application in various fields
2. Discuss policies of the govt. and manufacturers
3. Report professional views to policy makers
4. Evolve standards to be adopted all over the country
5. Learn from information pooled in by specialists
Lucknow Chapter came into existence in 1984 with 32 members and Mr. SC Sawhany as founder Chairman. Active since its inception it has won best chapter award for 1987-88, 2000-2001,2001-2002. Technical activities both at Chapter and Regional/ Divisional levels are organized for members in and around Lucknow . DBMS 89, BIG 92, NRC 95, COMNET 96, BIG 99, IT Quest, CONMICRO-2001, NRC-2002, CARD-2003, CONMICRO-2005 not only attracted delegates from all over India but set standards for other chapters as well. CSI publishes 'CSI Communiucation', 'Computer Science and Informatics' and 'CSI Adhyayan' magazines which are provided to members and Institutions free of cost on a monthly and quarterly basis.
The members are expected to abide by its code of ethics and pay nominal membership charges on yearly and lifetime basis. Membership has increased considerably over the years with more professionals joining the Chapter every day. Continuing the glorious tradition, the Managing Committee for the current year has worked out a year full of activities for different levels, to contribute in all computer related fields so as to provide an opportunity to involve members with varied interests. An annual convention of CSI at Lucknow by the turn of the century is being proposed in addition to holding a Regional/ Divisional level activity as proposed by Regional Chairman, North and Divisional Chairman V. For our own state UP, Lucknow Chapter is committed to provide necessary help to govt. to expedite growth of IT industry and effective utilization of computers and other existing infrastructure to popularize the computer applications besides creation of trained manpower to meet future requirements. Need has long been felt to have its own office premises for which efforts have been initiated. A drive has been launched to achieve at least 25% growth each in voting and life memberships to further strengthen the Chapter. Warm welcome awaits new members. Computer awareness programs of general interests amongst users, technical sessions, seminars, one day workshops and courses for students of standards IX to graduate level for their skill development are some of the activities in the pipeline in the forthcoming months. It is also proposed to create new chapters in various districts of UP to help strengthen CSI as a whole, by motivating and involving IT professionals in our activities.
Lucknow Chapter wishes inclusion of its members in various committees of CSI headquarters and participation of our members in international activities through CSI so as to project UP as an emerging state on IT fronts. Contributions, innovative ideas, feedback and active participation of fellow members to hold any of these activities, of additional ones in the current year will not only help us in achieving the objectives of CSI but also surpass previous standards in size and content.
