Evening Symposium on Cloud Computing

Delhi Chapter of the Computer Society of India (CSI) has organized an Evening Symposium on “Cloud Computing” on 23rd March, 2010 at India International Centre Annexe, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Prof. M. N. Hoda, Chairman, CSI DC has briefed the audience about the new initiatives and activities of the Delhi Chapter. He briefly apprised the members about INDIACom – 2010 in which over 600 papers were received, and the Conference was conducted in two days having 16 technical sessions under four parallel tracks. He also briefed the audience about NSC – 2010 in which teams from premiere institutions like IIT Roorkee, NITs, DCE, Jamia Millia Islamia and University of Delhi, won the prizes. He requested the members to constantly visit the website of Delhi Chapter www.csidelhi.org for the latest information about the activities of Delhi Chapter.

There were three technical talks in the symposium. Mr. Bijoy Singhal, Developer Evangelist, Microsoft India, has given a detailed presentation on “Demystifying the Cloud – A Brief Introduction to the What, the Why and the How”.  His presentation helped the participants to understand that how Cloud Computing as a whole can transform day to day applications. During his presentation, he discussed that with the help of this concept, the days are going to become a reality when you will need to pay for the amount of services, which you consume and not for the whole package of the services. This will also help to have a pool of resources and then provide services in most optimized way. Dr. Rajesh Narang, Chief Technology Officer, DIT, MC&IT and Director, National Institute of Smart Governance, Govt. of India, New Delhi, has given a detailed presentation on “Cloud Computing – A Way to Accelerate the IT Applications”. Mr. Vikas Arora, Group Director, Cloud Services, Microsoft India, gave his presentation on “Platform as a Service: Its’ Role and Key Considerations in Cloud Computing”. It was a detailed session on understanding the concept that how Cloud Computing can really be beneficial for IT users in particular and others in general. How the potentials can be tapped and be put to the benefits of the users. Final, Mr. Bijoy, also gave a live demo about the services available on the cloud and how the same can be explored and used in meaningful way.

Prof. A. K. Saini, Immediate Past Chairman, CSI DC, Mr. Manoj Sethi, Hony. Secretary, CSI DC and Mr. R. K. Vyas, Regional Students Co-ordinator, R-I, introduced the eminent speakers.  Mr. S. D. Sharma, Hony. Treasurer, CSI Delhi Chapter, presented vote of thanks.

The Symposium was attended by very senior members of CSI Delhi Chapter from all walks of life, in significant numbers and was well received by the participants.

Workshop on 06 Sigma

Delhi Chapter of the Computer Society of India (CSI) has organized a Four Days extensive Workshop on “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Workshop” in association with KINDUZ Consulting and Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Computer Applications and Management (BVICAM), New Delhi. KINDUZ Consulting (http://www.kinduz.com/) is a niche consulting firm that delivers focused 'Business Improvements', with 'Business Results' for its customers. Headquartered in India, with branches in Germany, U.S.A. and Canada, KINDUZ has completed over strategic consulting assignments with many companies like GlaxoSmithKline, GVK BIO, BGK Engineering, Akruthi Infratech, Harshini Infra, etc.

The Topics covered in the workshop include; Recognizing Business and Organizational Priorities, Defining Improvement Goals, Measuring Current Capability, Analyzing Root Causes and Constraints, Improving, Controlling Improvements, Design for Six Sigma, etc. over four days. Mr. Pavan Kota, CEO, KINDUZ Consulting, himself was the trainer for the workshop. Participants were from Hyatt Regency Hotel, C&C Alpha Group, Core Mind Techno Services, Lucid Infotech, SAIL, and BVICAM.

At the end, Prof. M. N. Hoda, Chairman, CSI DC, conducted a feedback session with the participants. He found participants very enthusiastic and thrilled by the quality of the workshop. One of the participants; Ms. Rama, Managing Partner, Core Mind Techno Services, gave the feedback that “It was a very practical approach to the training which relates to my business requirements”. Another participant; Mr. Bhuvanesh Khanna, Director, Hyatt Regency Hotel, mentioned that “I find myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to be trained and walked through the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification process by CSI and KINDUZ and BVICAM. The trainer took time to talk, explain give real life examples to ensure understanding. They have a great way of connecting with each participant and understanding the learning need for each. I for sure will be back for my Black Belt Certification”. Finally, Prof. Hoda, gave away Certificates and Mementoes to the participants. The workshop was conducted at BVICAM, New Delhi.
