| Contribution to IT profession | : | As Director of Computers in DRDO I was responsible for coordinating the Computing requirements for major Defence R & D Programmes such as IGMDP (integrated Guided Misle Development Programme) LCA (Light Combat Aircraft) and DRDO sponsored MSC Computer Education Programme for the creating on pool of Software IT Professionals. I have established DRDO regional Computer Center at Delhi, Bangalore, Hydarabad, Pune and Dehradun. I was Chairman of various review committees for Software Development of major Development defence projects. | |||
| Contribution to CSI | : | • He has been a member of CSI from 1967, currently Fellow of CSI. • Actively involved in CSI activities for the last 3 ½ decades – initially at Hyderabad in the managing committee of CSI Hyderabad chapter and program committee of CSI Convention at Hyderabad in 1982. • Actively participated by giving invited talks in almost all the National Conventions of CSI from 1970’s till today. • Chairman of Data Security, Div. VII, during 1989-91, 1991-95 (three terms) and again from 1999-2003 (two terms). • As Chairman, Div. VII, organized National conferences on data and information security at Trichy (1990), Goa (1991), Infosec 94 at Banglore (1994), Infosec 96 at Chennai (1996). National Seminars and conferences on e-Security at Banglore (July 2000), at Rourkela (Feb. 2001), Pune (Feb. 2001), Hosur (Aug. 2001) Allahabad (Jan 2003. Pune (Feb.2003). • Event Chairman for Networks 2002 – Theme: Reliable and Secure Networks at Mumbai in June 2002. • Chairman, Programme Committee of CSI National Convention 2002 October 2002 • Conference Chair: CSI-ISACA-National Conference on IT Governance and IT Security (Nov. 2003) • Dr. Chakravarthy has been responsible for bringing National awareness on the importance of e-Security including the Govt. and Defence agencies. • Dr. Chakravarthy has given tutorials on e-Security at National Conference on e-Security at Hosur, CSI National Convention at Kolkatta and Networks 2002 at Mumbai and the National Convention 2002 at Bangalore. • Dr. Chakravarthy was India’s representative in TC-11 working group 2001-2003. He was chairing a technical session at IFIP/Sec 2002 at Cairo and brought further visibility of CSI in IFIP. • As Conference Chairman of IT for Defence-coordinated for the complete two-day Conference, bringing all the Invited Speakers holding high position in Ministry of Defence, DRDO, Industry, Academia and others. The Conference was a first of its kind and a grand success. • As Chairman Division-IV (Communications) , during the period 2006 to 2010 he has organized several National Conference on Communications, Information Technology in Defence – Prestigious Conferences of CSI along with DRDO and other Workshops including Information Security. • As Chairman of SIG-IS I have carried out certain major initiative for enhance the Awareness of Information Security. As part of SIG-IS we have conducted the 5th National Conference on IT in Defence in Nov. 2009. Another major event – IT for Defence with the Theme : emerging technologies in the Modern Battlefield Scenario is planned to be held on 2nd and 3rd December, 2010. | |||
| Experience | : | Dr. C.R. Chakravarthy has held various important positions in DRDO for the last three and half decades. He has made significant contributions towards the applications of Information Technology – development of real time software for signal processors for secondary surveillance Radars, Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems, Communications, Information and Network Security for Defence applications. He has established self-reliance in critical areas of Defence Electronics technology – Cryptography, Embedded systems for Advanced Computer Communication Networks, Real Time Processors for Defence Weapon Systems, Secure Communication Systems for Defence and Govt. of India Intelligence Agencies. He has been an active member of the study group of Command, Control, Communications and Computer systems (C4I) for the Armed forces. As Director of Computers in DRDO, he has been responsible for computerization programme of DRDO, establishment of Regional Computer Centers, CAD/CAM systems for IGMDP (Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme) and LCA (Light Combat Aircraft). He has carried out major initiatives towards the training and generation of pool of software professionals not only for DRDO projects, but also as National Software resource / development centers in various Universities through the induction of M.Sc. Computer Science training program of DRDO. | |||

This has become most prestigious conference of CSI and every year fairly good amount of surplus was achieved and sent to CSI-HQ. Concernedly on equal amount of surplus was given to CSI-Bangalore Chapter also. International Conference Network security was conducted at Vishakhapatnam. Resulting in good surplus. | |||
| STATEMENT OF INTENT | |||||
As Chairman, Division-I of CSI. I will endeavor to organize at the National Level quality Conferences and Workshops on various topics of which are “state-of-art” in Technology in Computer Software and Information Technology. Computer Software is the main focus of top level decision makers in the Country. This is one division which has held several good Workshops during the last two years. I will try my best to maintain the tempo and organize various Workshops / Conferences in deferent aspects of software and software engineering. This division will work very close association with special interest group – SIG on Software Engineering.
